Monday at Istanbul

Today was a jam packed day in a very large metropolitan city... started at the Blue Mosque, then the Hiya Sophia, the Sultan's palace, (which included the Harem.. ), lunch at the Four Seasons hotel that was converted from a prison, the Grand Bazaar, the Spice Market and finally back to the ship for a concert with one of the top 5 cellists in the world and his wife, a concert pianist.

The highlight of the day (for Melany) was seeing Melanie (who never has met a stranger) make friends with a woman in a full burka... she was covered completely except eyes and hands... and I witnessed this special encounter ... the two made eye contact, then the other woman smiled with her eyes and gave the cutest wave and Melanie's waving back and smiling, too... It was truly amazing thing to witness and it is the highlight of my trip.

More to follow tomorrow...

Love, Melanie and Melany

  1. I've been checking my computer every few minutes because I figured it was about time for ya'll to blog. You are 8 hours ahead of us. I am not suprised that Melanie made friends with the woman in a burka. Even though they don't speak the same language, I'm sure that a friendship was formed. We will probably have world peace after your trip. I'm sure that neither of you will be easily forgotten and the "ugly american" is not being represented by you two. The goofy, pretty and sweet Americans, maybe! Remember, I am waiting with much anticipation for these blogs so keep them coming. I have your itinery so I know that tomorrow you will be in Chios, Greece and it sounds like a little slower day, albeit with some walking and spirituality. After today, you can probably use it. Did you use your bargaining skills in the market? Have a good day tomorrow or today (whenever you read this) Miss you both.Sandy
